As in most crime scenes, especially where an entire home is processed for fingerprint evidence, I am sure there were many unidentified latent prints. When I reviewed the case, I was given only overexposed, poor quality photocopies of the inked prints of people known to have been in the house. A comparison with those prints was impossible, as they were nothing but black blobs. I took my own inked prints from Shirley McKie and assured myself and others that the mark was not hers. As to who left that mark or how many other outstanding marks remain, those questions have never been answered. To the best of my knowledge, no one outside the Strathclyde Police or the SCRO has been given access to the rest of the fingerprint evidence.

However, the answer as to who left the mark in question is irrelevant to the charges against Shirley McKie. It simply was NOT left by her. To charge her with perjury for saying that it was not hers was a terrible injustice.
