I sincerely appreciate the comments that have been received thus far. What I could not place in my editorial was the incredible amount of unwarranted smears the SCRO has released against Pat Wertheim. News releases accused Pat of being incompetent and having insufficient qualifications to work for the SCRO. One report of an alleged contact with the FBI stated that agency had never heard of Pat, and didn't think he was a latent print examiner.
While the SCRO has not released any negative statements about me, I have experienced pressure to suppress a report of this incident. I am deeply disturbed that maintaining an image is more important than the rights of a person who did not leave her print at the scene, let alone what is right in the science of fingerprints. Whenever any of us forget what justice is all about, whenever any agency feels that the rights of one can be sacrificed for some greater good, then we are all in peril.
